Phantombility, Inc. releases Phantom Burner for Windows 1.5, the first and only software CD/DVD/Blu-ray burner emulator. It gives Yahoo! Music subscribers an easier and cheaper way to move their music without buying a large quantity of blank CDs.
On Sept. 30, Yahoo will shut down the servers that are needed to reauthorize music purchased from its Unlimited Music Store if it is transferred to a new PC. Yahoo has recommended customers to burn the tracks to CDs and then reload them on a PC.
For Yahoo customers with a large music collection, this can be a lengthy and wasteful process. Phantom Burner appears as a regular CD-R/DVD+RW/BD-RE burner in burning software, including Yahoo Music software. A disc image file is created when a virtual audio CD is burned. This image can be mounted again later for playback and reload.
Due to the virtual nature, the burning of a virtual CD in Phantom Burner is much faster than burning a real CD. No physical CD media is involved, reducing the waste, and eliminating the risk of creating bad burns.
Phantom Burner is compatible with most software with the CD, DVD and Blu-ray burning abilities. That includes general burning software such as Nero and RecordNow, music software such as Windows Media Player, Yahoo Music and iTunes, and DVD authoring software such as myDVD, Ulead DVD MovieFactory and Windows DVD Maker.
Phantom Burner costs $29.95(US) for a single-user license. Phantom Burner supports 32-bit Windows XP and Vista. 64-bit support is in the works.
